Block Block
It is generally admitted, we believe, that as long as they last, the wooden pavements have the advantage over all others. They occasion little noise, they are kept clean with little labor; they save a great deal in horsepower; they are pleasant to the hoof, and thus save the health of the horse as well as the wear and tear of vehicles and as much more, in time, to all travelers through the increased rapidity of passage to and fro..

The basic theory of Wood Block Flooring is centuries old. Ancient peoples used end-grain cuts of forest logs as chopping blocks noting that the tough end-grain surface could withstand the pounding of hammers and cutting tools without splintering.

In the 1800's and 1900's end-grain wooden blocks were first used in the USA for paving streets. Many end-grain block streets still exist even today in the US, including actual working streets in downtown Pensacola, Florida.

The amazing durability of wooden blocks as street pavers indicated they might prove ideal as industrial flooring. In the early 1920s, wood block flooring was successfully installed in major manufacturing facilities across our country, such as GM and Ford and in most all major US steel manufacturers plants.Eventually the European machine industry also adopted wood block flooring for industrial use.

It is with this rich history in mind LV Wood Floors has developed a unique line of wooden blocks and mosaic tiles that are absolutely gorgeous and suited for use in the home or retail environments.

The choices range from exotic foreign wood species to reclaimed 18th century barn beams recovered in Amish Pennsylvania. Dimensions vary and custom dimensions can be specified.
